Dave and colleague Joe Teeling opened Bearence in January 2005 to create a unique risk management group that focused on a client’s total risk, including benefits, property & casualty, financial strategies, and other business needs. Today, the firm has grown to four locations and is rapidly expanding throughout the upper Midwest.

Previously, Dave was a managing director with Marsh & McLennan Companies and was responsibile for the firm’s Advantage America’s Midwest division. While at Marsh, he also developed the company’s human resources outsourcing platform, and led its executive medical reimbursement program to unprecedented levels of growth.

Dave serves on the board of the "I Have a Dream" Foundation, as chair of the Athletics Advisory Board at the University of St. Thomas and as chair of the Casa Hogar of Iowa Board. He previously served on the executive committee of The United Way of Central Iowa.
